The Girls that Rocked Coachella 2013

This was my first year to attend Coachella and I really didn't have a clue what to expect. All I can say is that I am completely and utterly in awe of the talent that I saw over the last 3 days. These girls rocked my weekend so hard that I just had to share them with you in case you don't know them already.

GRIMES |||

She's fun, she's weird and she's dark all in one. I love every single drop of her quirk and haven't taken her off of Pandora since leaving Coachella. She will absolutely WOW you in person.

POLICA |||

Her voice, her voice, her voice....

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
JESSIE WARE |||

My mainstream choice of the weekend - just an undeniably beautiful voice.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
PURITY RING |||

A happy accident for me this weekend and sadly I only got to see a few minutes of their show. Definitely on my concert "to do" list this year..

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

and now....so you don't think I'm a music sissy - here are the true "chick rockers" of the weekend.  I would trade places with any of these women ANY day of the week:

SAVAGES |||

Check out the drummer of this all-girl band. I couldn't take my eyes off of her - she's just incredible!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
DEAP VALLY |||

O.M.G. AMAZING! No other words for these two. The White Stripes of chick bands...

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
the YEAH, YEAH, YEAHS |||

If I could be anyone in the world right now it would be this awesomeness right here. She could not be more "rock star". One of the best EVER live performers I've seen.

Oh oh, Karen O....

Jimmy Jammin'

Do you ever have songs that make you feel so good that you put them on repeat over and over? This is my happy song of the day. I can hardly sit still listening to it.

On the Fitz.

I'm not sure how a song can sound happy and melancholy/nostalgic at the same time, but this one does....love the background melodies and beat of this remix. Its so well remixed you wouldn't even notice that it is. <3

beach house vs treehouse

my friend Jose recently turned me onto this band, Beach House, and I'm officially in love....

here is a selection of my favorites from what little I know so far...

***

just for fun (because I love treehouses) I looked up to see if there was an indie band named treehouse and i didn't find a band worthwhile, but I did find a "treehouse" song that I love...check it out ("i have built a treehouse--nobody can see us...cause its a you and me house" - love it):

when the only thing that will do is a mid-day dance...

ever have those days that just can't seem to be fixed? yeah, me too. when they happen, if I can stop my wheels from spinning off first, I like to take a moment and "dance it off". its like walking it off, but with better moves :)

this song always gets me in a mood for a mid (bad) day dance...or really any day. I can't keep myself still when i hear it:

hope it puts a spring in your dance-step too.

Tuned in:Washed Out

Frequently, I'll start listening to a band or group and not really pay attention to the name. I stick them on my "Favorites" playlist and might listen to them on repeat for days and days without being able to tell you what the song name is or who did it.

I was lucky enough to accidentally stumble upon these guys Live when Chris and I were recently in Spain, after listening to them for the first part of the year, but not really knowing who they were. Not only do I think they're great, but after researching them a bit more, I found this album on at least three blog lists of Top Indie Albums of 2011.

What's interesting about the lead artist, Ernest Greene, is that he made his very humble DIY beginnings at home in his bedroom with a laptop, sample bank and microphone and this is his debut album - not too shabby, Ernest!

I'm a bit in love with songs that have an 80's synth feel to them these days and this one definitely does, while adding a psychedelic freshness that I can't quite articulate in words, but he does so well in sound...

I hope you enjoy:
